What to expect in the Salsa & Bachata Beginner Course?
Ready to step onto the dance floor with confidence? Our Salsa and Bachata Beginners courses are designed especially for adults who are new to Latin dancing and want to learn in a fun, supportive environment.
Our classes run on a continuous 6-week cycle, and the best part is that you can join anytime! Each week, our friendly and experienced instructors go over the basic steps, so even if you miss a class or start mid-cycle, you won’t feel left behind.
In every session, you’ll learn and practice partnerwork combinations that you can use right away at socials or dance events. We make sure you’re not just learning, you’re dancing.
We recommend doing the full 6 weeks to build a strong foundation. Many students choose to repeat the course to gain confidence, master the moves, and feel fully prepared to move on to Salsa or Bachata Level 2 (check out our timetable).
SALSA
Salsa is a vibrant and energetic Latin dance that originated in the Caribbean, blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz and other influences. Known for its lively music, quick footwork, and playful partner interactions, Salsa is more than just a dance — it’s a social experience that brings people together. Whether danced socially or performed, Salsa is all about connection, rhythm, and fun, making it one of the most popular Latin dances around the world.

BACHATA
Bachata is a smooth and romantic Latin dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. Characterised by its sensual hip movements, simple footwork, and close partner connection, Bachata is easy to learn and incredibly fun to dance. Set to beautiful Latin music with a steady beat, it’s a favourite at social dance events around the world. Whether you’re dancing for fun or to connect with others, Bachata offers a relaxed and enjoyable way to step onto the dance floor with confidence.

I have never danced before, can I still join?
Absolutely! Our Salsa and Bachata Beginners courses at Tropical Soul are designed specifically for adults with no dance experience at all. We create a fun, welcoming environment where you’ll learn the basic steps, timing, and partnerwork from day one. Our experienced instructors break everything down in a simple, easy-to-follow way, so you’ll feel comfortable and confident — even if you’ve never danced before. Whether you’re looking to try something new, meet people, or just have fun, our Salsa and Bachata classes in Sydney are the perfect place to start your dance journey. And yes — you can join anytime!
Do I need a dance partner to join the Salsa or Bachata classes?
No partner? No problem! You don’t need a dance partner to join our Salsa or Bachata Beginners classes at Tropical Soul. Most of our students come on their own, and during the class, we rotate partners regularly so everyone gets a chance to dance and learn with different people. This helps improve your leading or following skills and makes the class more social and fun. So whether you’re coming solo or with a friend, you’ll always have someone to dance with. Our adult dance classes in Sydney are a great way to meet new people while learning Salsa and Bachata in a friendly, supportive environment.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SALSA & CUBAN SALSA?
The basic steps for both styles are exctaly the same, as well as the timing. The difference is that Cuban Salsa is danced in a Circular fashion, whilst the other is danced in a Linear way
I prefer to dance solo, what should I take?
If you prefer to dance solo, then we recommend our Mixed Latin styles, the most popular is Reggaeton, then Twerk and Brazilian Funk. We aslo offer Heels & Hip Hop! With those styles, you can join at any time!
What do you recommend for my first class?
Arrive to your class at least 15 mins early so you can get familiar with the premisses.
Our receptionist will take a photo of you for your student profile. Make sure to smile.
You soon will meet fellow students that are in the same journey as you.
what should i wear?
For our Partnered Styles, like Salsa & Bachata, casual clothing is fine.
For our Mixed Latin Styles, gym clothing as you will be sweating.
Bring a towel and a water bottle. We do have a bubbler and a vending machine at the back of the studio.
